2024 Women in Construction Week Member Feature - Jill Johnson, Holly Home Renovations
Q1: What is your job title?
Project Coordinator
Q2: What do you do for your company?
Our business consists of just me and my husband, Todd. Because of this, I wear many hats! I handle our scheduling for new leads, manage our projects in the development phase, handle all of our business accounting and project job costing, as well as handle all of our marketing and social media channels. There are days I'll be a 2nd set of hands on a jobsite, I used to do a lot of our tile work as well. In building a business you have to be willing and able to step into any role that the business needs. It's part of what I love about doing this with Todd. (Maybe the better question is what does Todd do.....I'm kidding! He heads up all of the actual construction tasks and trade partner relationships)
Q3: Do you hold any NARI certifications?
No
Q4: How do you use your previous experience and/or education to do your job?
My education is actually in the field of physical therapy. I never dreamed that I would bridge into the construction industry, even with knowing Todd's passion. However, I realized so much of what I love about PT is also present in the construction industry. I feel as if my physical therapy education gives me a different perspective on how a person moves through spaces, I love the space planning phase of a project! My 2 jobs are actually very similar: in one job I help to improve function of a person to get them back in their home, and in my other job I help change the home to better function for the people.
Q5: What got you into the business?
I 100% owe this to Todd. It was his passion and his skills that exposed me to this industry. As we established our business and started to grow, I realized that my personal strengths could be an asset to the business. I was hesitant initially to change careers, but it was through networking with the wonderful people in this industry that I realized I not only could make an industry change, but I also could find a whole new community here!
Q6: What do you love about Remodeling?
I love that there are no 2 projects or clients that are the same in the remodeling world. Each home we work on has it's own history, and has housed many different families with many different needs, each of them making their marks on the home. I love working with clients to understand what function it is that their looking to gain from their remodel, and coming up with unique ways to enrich their lives in their home.
